Are all audio formats automaticaly converted to Wave files?

When you use the media pool to record from a CD you have no option as to what format to record using, only wave. You can drag other formats like MP3 & WMA onto the timeline & use these in your projects. When you do this are these formats converted to wave files before they are used by Vegas?

If they are used as is I guess that if I want to use music in my projects & keep my file sizes small I will have to convert them to MP3 or WMA & not let Vegas record them.

It really don't matter... until you render, then you have several choices.

MP3 and WMA are not converted to WAV when used in a project. Audio recorded in Vegas, and extracted from CD, is done so losslessly, in WAV format. If you choose to compress them later, that's your option.
