Are separate renders necessary?

I rendered and MGEG 2 at DVD NTSC settings and the Optimize DVD list shows that DVDA will have to recompress. So I render the audio separately , .wav, 44,100, 16 bit and it still lists the audio as having to be recompressed. Am I missing something here or misreading the chart? It didn't even look like the separate audio track was in the last.

Thanks in advance.

Basically, the answer is yes but it should be to MPEG2 and AC3. If you do want WAV, go to the optimize box and tell it to not convert to AC3.

My mixes are straight stereo. Will encoding in AC-3 mess that up at all?

My only concern is double compression on the audio. If I render a separate track in wave (or just the DVD NTSC template for Video and Audio), will I lose any quality in the finished product?

Again, thanks.

Render from Vegas to AC-3. Then it won't be recompressed.

Also, render the audio at 48 kHz, not 44 kHz.
