"but can't find out how to change it back to alphabetical...." Yeah, hard one this . . . (wink) In Explorer, see the very itsy bitsy faint "arrow" next the word "Name" above the file colomn - yeah? Well click on it and puts files into alpha-numeric order - yup?

Oh, and you've never asked a dumb question Grazie ? : )
No, actually I mean in V4 explorer ... You're right, if I click on the name bar, it changes it, but I wonder why my folders in the tree view (to the left)seem to have no order whatsoever.
Thanks Grazie,
Randy

Thanks anyway Grazie. Strange that everything is normal in Windows Explorer but not in V4 Explorer. I can live with it, I just think it's something I'm overlooking.
Thanks again Grazie,
Randy

Just click on the "heading" called "Name". That will put the list in "name" order. If you click on the "Name heading" again, it will put it in reverse order.

I hope that's what you are asking for help on.

Thanks Brian, but no, I'm talking about the tree view on the left. It's no big deal, I just thought it would be nice to be able to (like one can in Windows Explorer) select view/ arrange icons by/ name, type, size etc.
Thanks anyway,
Randy

I'm not sure if we're communicating in the same language here. In V4, it has an "explorer" like interface, just like "Windows Explorer".

In the window, on mine, I have a list of all my folders on the left side. To the right is a list of the contents of whatever file is highlighted.

If the folder has a list of files, (the one of the right), you can click on whatever heading you want to put things in order according to THAT heading. This works exactly like "Windows Explorer".

In other words, you can sort by name, type, size etc.

Hi Randy,

That is kinda screwy... I can't replicate it here.

I gotcha... and my folders on the left are not in alphabetical order...oh wait, it's just the numbers that don't display in order. Okay here's what I'm doing:
I do a lot of high school sports highlights videos. As you can imagine you get a jillion (especially in baseball) clips to sort through. The most efficient way I've found (open for other suggestions here) is to create a bunch of folders in the tree view with the players respective numbers and drag clips (that "make the cut") to the players folder. That said, the numbers (folders) decending are 2,4,10,12,7,...make sense? I'm starting to feel a little silly now but still curious as to why the numerically named folders aren't in sequence.
Thanks for your patience,
Randy

Ah HAH! I think I know this one . . . . Numbers get ordered as follows:

1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9

NOW, when you get to "10" it gets put after "1". Sooo.... you get:

1
10
2
3
4

etc etc - I believe it's a DOS thing!

The other thing is you leave in spaces "(space)" this could also "throw" the order - yeah?

Your penultimate sentence says it all - do I ever ask dumb questions - I guess I don't - I guess you and I ask "questions" PERIOD - Keep asking questions! I DO! - It's how I've learnt stuff. Randy you're a star!

Cheers,

Grazie

Well Grazie, I reckon you're right because after that 7 it lists 8 and then 9. I'll let it go...but I'm still curious as to why it doesn't do that in Windows Explorer...okay now I'll let it go! Hey, it's happy hour here in New Mexico, gotta go!
Thanks to everyone for their patience,
Randy

Randy, I do a lot of soccer video and have noticed the same thing. Your numbers may be out of sync because the single digits, 0-9, need to have a zero preceding them, i.e. 01,02, etc. Also the order of characters is different in Vegas than in Explorer. I can't tell you why, but it seems to be so. I routinely order my clips by player number, and use the characters above the number keys to rank action from 1 to 9 without the confusion of the action rank and the player number. These characters seem to display in different orders in Vegas and Explorer.
