Artifacts in Vegas 13

I recently upgraded to Vegas 13. I also purchased a Panasonic HC-X920M full HD camera. With the camera set to 1920x1080/50P I am getting poor quality playback loading files onto timeline of Vegas 13. Problems like: Mosquito like artifacts, jagged vertical lines during panning and jittery playback. These are particularly noticeable on the TV monitor.

I also have a working version of Vegas 8 version C. When the above files are played back with this, there are no quality problems like in Vegas 13. What can be causing this and why should there be such a difference between Vegas 8 and Vegas 13?

Try and switch off GPU acceleration in VP13. Your GPU may not sufficient for VP13 and VP8 doesn't have this feature.

If those are the system specs in your profile. That machine is way behind where it needs to be in todays standards. Get the specs up to i7-gen4, 16GB ram, and an AMD 290x. You will see a major difference.

To be accurate, I got Vegas 13 some weeks before I purchased the HD camera. At that time, I was still working with SD video and noticed the artifacts then. These artifacts did get much worse when I went onto HD video. I believe there is a definite difference between the two versions of Vegas - especially noticeable when the same clip is played back on a TV monitor.

Does this export out? IE can you save the preview as an image with the artifacts, render a video, etc.

Are you using Vegas 8 32 bit? Could be the 64-bit codec's on your system causing the issue.

Hi there: I was using Vegas 8 32 bit prior to upgrading to Vegas 13 64 bit. The artifacts were present as well when using 32 bit but not as many. At the time, I contacted Vegas help desk and they came up with some suggestions (which I tried) but made no difference. Hey! I am really amazed that so far I seem to be the only person that has noticed artifact problems. Now to be specific, they behave like a swarm of mosquitos coming and going. On close inspection, they are little boxes with zebra markings in them. If I do nothing, they will save along with rendered files......
My whole system is now set up with Win 7 64bit and also Vegas 8 and Vegas 13 both 64 bit. Naturally to avoid getting artifacts I work mainly with Vegas 8 now, where the artifacts are much less.
