Artifacts with HDVSplit

Using HDVSplit to download from the FX1 to my laptop and seem to be getting occasional artifacts for several frames where there don't seem to be any in the original tape. At least, playing it back in the camera does not seem to show them.

Problem I have is that my computer has gotten slower and slower using Vegas (6.0d now) and so as you watch the preview, it often skips over these frames. They don't show up til you've put the whole thing on DVD -= or at least rendered it and are watching the result in DVD Architect.

So, I guess I have two problems. My laptop is maxed out at 2 gigs of RAM - should I be switching to my desktop and going with 4 gigs??

Very frustrating.

Can Windows even utilize 4 gigs of ram?
As for HDV Split, I use it in conjunction with my a1u and have not had any artifacts show up (but I did read that it is/was a known issue with a previous version). By no means am I a standard on this as I have only used it less than 10 times, but everytime I used it, I have not had artifacts.

Be sure you're using the latest version of HDVSplit. Some of the earlier builds have had issues.

The earliest versions of HDVSplit were fine and so are the latest, but there were a couple of versions in between that had artifact problems. Like Spot says, update to the latest version.
