OK... having just found out that the IT guy here, um - screwed us with a "toy" (words of the maker") video capture card... I am looking for the following information:

Initial source is analogue (SVHS/High-8)
Need to be able to out-put back to analogue; same decks

What is the best video capture card that is compatible with Vegas Video 3.0 Capture?

We are interested in broadcast quality.

I have a friend who is using dazzles DV now AV capture card and he (and myself looking over his sholder) are very impressed but, and here is the but, he uses Première. It should be o.k. but you should check with them before you purchaseing it just to be sure. What ever you do don't buy a pinnicle /(miro) DC10 (first hand experience here!). good luck.

I've been using Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge with much success. It works by plugging the device into a firewire card. It's around $250 & you can capture stuff from analog vhs tapes also. It works with vegas 2.0, 3.0 & premiere with no problems. It is more user friendly with vegas.

I use a D-Link brand FireWire card and a Sony DVMC-DA2 video converter. It uses the same compression chip as the Sony MiniDV camcorders, so digitization is pretty clean. Both work flawlessly. You can also buy more expensive DV converters from places like FullCompass.com or BHphotovideo.com which will capture PAL and other formats and zccept component imputs, etc. Just depends on what your needs are I guess.

I just purchased the Sony DVMC DA2 Media Converter and love it. It offers S-Video, Component and Firewire in / out ports. Works great with an OHCI compatible 1394 board. You can purchase it off the net for around $300.

Here's a URL for specifications ... I didn't purchase mine from this virtual store but you can learn about the unit: http://www.video-direct.com/accessories/sony/vidacc.html
