ASF files and VV 3.0

I want to use VV3 to convert some old ASF (windows media) files and I can not get them to play in VV 3.0. It loads the file but when I play it I get a freeze-frame looking display. The audio seems to play just fine.

So does anyone have some ideas how to get this to work or point me to a converter from ASF files to AVI or similar?

Thanks
Sid

Not sure if this is your problem, but you need a separate password to open the part of the system that allows these imports.

if you have Microsoft Movie Maker (comes with winXP), you might be able to use that to convert the ASF/WMV file into an uncompressed AVI. check out Media Cleaner Pro and see if that can open ASF files.

Thanks for the pointers. In fact I found VirtualDub and an older version (1.3d) converts ASF to AVI which I can then load into VV 3.

Now it's there it looks so bad I am not sure that it is going to be usable.

Again, thanks for the pointers

Yes, if it has lots of compression it can look pretty bad. I've had some luck turning on the "resample" switch before I render to another format, it makes it slightly less choppy.
