I really havn't had much good to say about Vegas for a while (other than I still use it). There are obvious issues I have with SF and their new direction (or lack there of)...
BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THE POSITIVES OF SF AND VEGAS:
- Great job changing the name of the app (and box design). Just "Vegas" is better (although I still think the name is cheesed...it's a step in the right direction).
Someone get canned in marketing? Let's hope so.
- You guys know how to plan and design. The UI has kept me holding on to vegas (still). When this starts to wear thin against competition features is still unknown. SF has always put 100% into they're UI. Hopefully added audio features can be rehashed.
- DVD authoring? Well I think it's great, even though I'll rarely use it. If one is hoping to dive into DVD authoring, then I would think Vegas and it's UI would be the smarter choice.
As DVD recorders come down, SF may finally see the sales numbers rise (you need a smart, fresh marketing team though. The route taken in the past wasn't cutting it).
Glaring issues:
- the separation of like/cohesive apps (CDA, acid, and vegas for example) is still a horrid choice (and that just isn't my opinion). I havn't heard an argument yet that is convincing otherwise, an I've been listening.
In the state SF is in, it's time to pull out the stops and compete at some level in the audio world today - and one app with this power would be a cincher.
It's essentially the sum of all everyone has suggested really, just rolled into one app.
- knit picky things like having to buy MP3 encoding (??...with all that's available right now?..why? Show some class in this area. It's nikel and dime SF).
No proper deletion of wavs (permanantly) from a current project (without resaving it all to a new folder).
Is a midi "scratchpad" type sequencer really that offensive on the whole? (yeah, yeah, besides all those anal retentives that freak out shouting immediate instability - to that I say..."acid3? Sonar? Logic?").
- CDA5? why if one goes with Vegas?
Too little too late? The differences are minute when weighed, so why not build it into the content creation app?
