ASIO Changes

I recently had a power issue. Fortunately, it didn't wipe out my computer, but it did take down the power supply and somehow the Platinum "Drive" on my Creative Audigy Platinum sound card. I am wanting to move up to something on the order of the MOTU 8pre but I can't afford that and the support gear I would need for that right now.

So I didn't want to spend any more than necessary to get audio in and out of the computer - I went with a M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496. It set up just fine, although it ignores the volume control I have built into the keyboard I use. I can live with that though.

The real problem I'm having is "exceptions". There appears to be some sort of audio conflict going on between Vegas and the 2496 card. I checked, and everything seems to be set up properly in "Options-Preferences-Audio Device". I may not have the card itself set up completely right, I'll keep working on that.

When I start Vegas, a box pops up telling me CTASIO is not available, or can't be found on the computer. This would be correct as I no longer have a Creative sound card on the computer and believe I removed all the software and drivers for it from the computer as well. I also set up Vegas to look for the M-Audio card. Why does it continue to look for Creative resources, and how do I get it to stop? Is it likely this will help with the exception problems I'm having? What/where should I look to fix that?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Jim

When you uninstall the Creative drivers it does not remove the ASIO drivers in the registry correctly.

To remove them, run regedit.exe and locate

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO

Somewhere in here you will find a (maybe 2) reference to something from "Creative". Delete these keys only! and the problem will go away.

PS: I believe there is a knowlege base article that also covers this problem.

Thank you!

That seems to have helped a lot. I no longer see the message about the missing Creative ASIO, and since I deleted the keys I haven't experienced that exception either.

Now, if you don't mind I have a follow-up question. When I was looking through the keys, I found two identical ones for the M-Audio card. I deleted one of those as well, figuring one was enough and perhaps that was confusing the issue. (I did have some issues getting the card's drivers updated, still haven't got the most recent ones in but it's working so I'm not going to worry overly about it - have an email to the manufacturer about it so hopefully I'll have some answers soon.)

The question is the (Default) shows "Type" REG_SZ and "Data" (value not set). Is this something that should have the value set? When the Audigy was in there it had ASIO as a value.

Also, do you have any ideas how I can get my Creative Prodikeys PC-MIDI keyboard to communicate to Vegas and the soundcard again? It only has volume and mute, I can get mute to work rather weirdly in Vegas, but not with the card's mixer, and the volume control seems to have no affect whatsoever.

Thanks again for your help. Happy New Year!
