Aspect Ratio Annoyances

I just got DVD Architect 1.0c. I don't know if it's me or what, but
can somebody tell me why the workspace dimensions are not proportional
to 640x480 (4:3)? It's like 654 x 480. WHY?

Do I ignore their resolution and keep my images as 640x480 or do I
have to re-dimeision all of my images now to 654x480 so they don't
distort when I import them?

Standard NTSC is 720x480 on the screen. To convert back to square pixels, the result is 655x480 and is NOT 640x480. So, sounds like everything is correct.

The aspect ratio used for NTSC is 720x480. However, you can't just take a 720x480 graphic and import it into your project and have it look right because your graphics program uses square pixels, and your output for dvd will use rectangular pixels. To make your graphics look like they did when you first created them requires a couple of steps. Make your graphic on a 720x540 canvas. When you are finished (if you are in Photoshop or similar app), you would change the image size to 720x480 without the constrain proportions enabled. It will 'squish' the look of your graphic, but it will display properly once used in dvd authoring.

NTSC:
720X540 for 4:3 mode
854x480 for 16:9

Resize both to 720x480 for final graphic without constrain proportions enabled.

PAL:
768x576 for 4:3 (square pixel)
1024x576 for 16:9 (square pixel)

Resize both to 720x576 for final graphic without constrain proportions enabled.
