your project AR set to HDV too?

That's a VERY good question. Both your source and preview are 1.778:1.

The article here:

only deals with SD and PAR but its spun my head enough to not even want to consider what all this means in HD.

It only happens on this PC. ATI Radeon 9600 vid card, which I have in another PC and no problems on that one. When I had Vegas on my laptop, no problems there, either.
It drives me nuts. Paint Shop Pro correctly shows the AR for the image.

I was going to say "could it be the monitor?" but that makes no sense either. If it was both circles would be wrong...I think.

My advice, learn to live with it, all that really matters is your rendered output is OK.

ok, I just loaded up your first image in gimp (one with preview & thumb): BOTH are perfect 1:1 ratio circles.

Is it possible that you're running a 16:9 monitor using a 4:3 resolution setting on your video card, like 1024x768, 1152x864? Or perhaps you're using a 1280x1024 LCD monitor at a 4:3 setting.

Great detective work. I was going to do the same thing in PS and then though nah, the preview window is so obviously wrong....
So I just checked using PS to enlarge the T/L thumbnail and overlay it over the preview window and they are indeed identical and both circles are circles.

That's one good optical delusion :)

Yes, same here. Perfect circle in the preview regarding and measuring the screeshot.

You guys are right! It sure looks squashed, though, no? Can't say it makes me like it, but at least I know....

Thank you video detectives!

BTW, I'm on a CRT 4:3 monitor at 1280 x 1024.
