I am looking for asset management software. The ones I know about are alienbrain and extensis portfolio, I am going to try them out but I was wondering what you all use.

I want to be able to manage all my files so that if I have a central database of all my files(say on my laptop) , so I can know which files are on which drives, including those that are not currently connected to the computer
What do you use?

I use iView Media Pro. I tried a bunch before I settled on this one. Not perfect, but works well for me.

Thanks Randall,
Thats looks quite versatile. Considering all the file types supported.
Is there any asset management (or maybe shall i say database) software that would include all types of file types. Not necessarily import the files (as the aforementioned software does). but one that would create a catalog of every single of file on the hard drive.... basically what explorer does, but to go a step further, This searchable list is stored in a database. Then I can quickly locate a file on my 15 drives even if the drive is archived on a shelf. Also showing which is a newer version etc.

Because of the limit of file types in the asset managemnt software I have lookded at so far, this wont be possible using any of these. Though they will be great for multimedia files. So I can foresee using these 2 types of sotware to complement each other.,
