Assigning to outboard effects AFTER recorded.

OK, I've kind of worked this out in my head (and on paper) but I wanted some opinions. (and of course the best thing would be to try it and see if it works..but I'm at work, not near my system and anxious).

I have some vocal tracks I want to put through a hardware harmonizer AFTER they they have been recorded. Here's what I'm thinking.....

* Take the vocal track and assign it to a Vocal Bus
* Route that bus to outputs 7 & 8 of my Delta 1010 (I use 1 & 2 for main out puts and the others are empty)
* Take those outputs and route them into my Vocal processor (digitech)
* Come out of the Digitech back into the inputs of my Mackie and record

the questions I have are:
1) will it create some kind of loop/feed back ?
2) will it degrade the quality of the signal significantly ?
3) will I get some kind of delay ?

If I don't get any response before I get to my set up to try this I'll let you know how it came out.

Thanks Humans !!!

Are you mixing through the Mackie? If so, a standard approach would be to route the hamonizer thru one of the mixer's aux send/return. Another approach would be to route the vocal track directly into the harmonizer and record the output into a new Vegas track. This way you have much more control over the hamonizer efx during your mix and in my view would be preferable.

I basically use the Mackie for recording (sometimes I'll sequence 8-10 tracks and record them all at once) ONce recorded, I mix through Vegas. So I have my inputs into the Mackie..going out to the Delta..into Vegas.(assigned to seperate tracks of course).. and then I'm coming out of the Mackie in to speakers for playback (Main outs 2 channels)

So coming out back into the Mackie wouldnt really work I dont think becasue I have everything mixed down ( from Vegas) into 20 tracks. I could do it i'm sure.. but with a bunch of re-wiring.

Your second suggestion sounds better to me.. and I think what I was planning anyway. I just need to make sure I can assign a bus to a particular output of my Delta (I can't remember if all the busses go dorectly to MASTER or not). And you're right..I'd have a lot more control.

Do you think there would be any delay or looping issues ?

yes you would have delay issues. But if you rerecord the fx into vegas you could manually line it up after the fact. If you don't use the record input monitor you shouldn't have a loop.

COOL... and since this new processed file will be a print from an existing vocal track..lining it up/matching it up should be no problem.
