associating .veg with vegas 8

when opening vegas 8, i get the message, "do you want to associate the following file types with sony vegas pro 8 software?"----------it then shows, ".veg" for the file type. If I say yes, does this mean i need to open all of my vegas 7 files in vegas 8? if so, will it alter the older vegas 7 projects?
thank you

Once you open and save your V7 projects in V8 they will only work in V8, they will then not work in V7, V6, V5, V4. If you run into rendering problems (maybe) in V8 rendering your V7 project you will have to start over and re-capture into V8.

If you do specifiy .veg to open with Vegas 8 by default - it simply means that when you double click, or select open, then V8 will be launched to open the .veg file. There is nothing stopping you opening it up in V7, or any other version *. Afterall, V8 creates a .veg, and so does V7 - windows has no way of differentiating the versions - it's why MS use .doc for pre-2007 documents, and .docx for office 2007 and onwards

If in doubt, make a backup copy before you open in V8, then you can at least revert to opening in V7 if desired.

*Unless, as stated, you have saved in a later version - then it requires at least that version to open up
