when opening vegas 8, i get the message, "do you want to associate the following file types with sony vegas pro 8 software?"----------it then shows, ".veg" for the file type. If I say yes, does this mean i need to open all of my vegas 7 files in vegas 8? if so, will it alter the older vegas 7 projects?
thank you

No. It means that if you double-click a veg file, Vegas 8 is what it will use to open the file.

You can still open Vegas 7, then navigate to whatever you want to open.

You should also be able to right click on the Vegas 7 veg file, Choose Open With, then select the program you want to use then and there.

No. They will only be altered if you actually save the project file with Vegas 8. You could just "view" them with Vegas 8, but nothing will "happen" unless you save it with the later version of Vegas.

Vegas 8 will also prompt you if you are about to save a file created in an earlier version and ask if you are sure you want to do it. So, as long as you pay attention, you won't "switch" anything created earlier by accident.
