Ahhhhh.... no.

But, I've found the ATI TV thinggy to work great. Here's what I do to edit in Vegas:

Setup a custom recording template.

Use the video AVI (not ATI VCR, mpeg, or WMV) res 704x480, 29.97fps, interlaced
audio: 48,000khz, 16-bit stereo

I recomend the Huffy codec (make sure thet "always suggest RGB output" box in the settings is checked.

Works like a dream! :)

I don't know about Vegas 4 but in Vegas 5 I just captured 720x480 avi through vidcap.

My preview was also b&w until I went into video/tv tuner properties and changed channels.

That was with a 9600XT.

But then you can always capture with the ATI software and put it on the timeline without using Vegas.

What version of MMC are you using? I"ve got the latest (9.1, I think), and I can NEVER get the audio to sync when using any AVI codec, including Huffyuv. I've tried Mainconcept and Huffyuv, and the audio is always screwed up. I also end up with field order issues, sometimes reversed, sometimes fields missing. Are there any other setting?

I've got 9.03 (I just downloaded the latest version when I couldn't find my CD). Here's my settings:

Vid Props
Std: NTSC, NTSC-J, PAL-M, PAL-60
Res: 704x480
Framerate: 29.97
Codec: Huffyuv v2.2.0
Audio Props:
Format: 48.0KHz, 16-bit Stereo
Codec: PCM

I've only had a dropped frame once or twice, but besides that the sync is perfect & no dropped frames. When you capture the first file at the settings & put it on the timeline, tell Vegas to use that files specs for the project specs, then save a new project spec. Don't forget to render your mpeg-2 with those specs (I use TMPGenc DVD & it supports 704x480 file, they fall under the DVD spec. Not sure about DVDA)

What ATI do you have? I've got the AIW 9600Pro. Also, are you capturing to a seperate HD (I assume you are, but just checking!). But, I've only had sync issues when a) I capture from a VHS (not my Hi8 cam) & b) when I used an el-cheapo capture card (CyberAV I think was the comapny name. They went under a while ago) I've even captured 48 hours of DVCPro to mpeg-2 on that card without a dropped frame (put a TV show to DVD). :D

I got a ATI AIW 9800 Pro card with MMC 9.01. The question was if I could use Vegas 4.0 and ATI card for video capture.

I've got MMC 9.02. I used the settings you recommended with Huffyuv 2.2.0 and my ATI Radeon 8500DV.

NTSC, 704x480 Huffyuv v2.2.0, 29.97, 48,000KHz, PCM

The audio is sixteen frames shorter than the video, and out of sync. My Huffyuv settings are:

Predict left (fastest)
Predict left/no decorr. (fastest)
Field Threshold: 480
Enable full size output buffer checked
All other items: unchecked
TheHappyFriar wrote on 2/18/2005, 8:35 PM
Miles: yes you can, you just can't use vidcap. You have to use the software that came with the card.

John: for Huffy I have
Predict Media (best)
Predict Gradient (best)
Field Threshold 288
Always sugest RGB output
Enable Full Size Buffer

The audio normally is shorter then the video (I found that even with DV!), but I've never been outta sync.

What's your copmuter type? On my AMD XP 1800 I used those settings perfectly fine.
johnmeyer wrote on 2/19/2005, 9:46 AM
Hmmm, those are definitely different settings for Huffyuv than I use. That field threshold should result in the encoding being progressive, but what do I know? I'm surprised your computer can keep up with the "best" encoding, although you did mention dropping frames, and that could be the reason.

I have a 2.8 GHz P4 XP Pro (SP1) computer.

It only dropped occationatly, when the drive was really fragged (I used an external 80gb, a 80gb system & a seperate 160gb drive).

As I understand the threshhold, it's just the min # of lines that must be there for it to capure. All my stuff is interlaced.

Maybe it's an XP thing. I'm running Win2k.
