ATI all-in-wonder capture problem and few questions

hi all
i m having some troubles when i capture from vcr thru the ati all-in-wonder. it works fine on my 98se boot, but when i use win2k pro, as long as i hit the rec button, it hangs and have to reboot the system. i try install different ati drivers but didnt help, it seemed to work fine on 98 but win2k. also when i switch from ati capture to 1394 firewire, it hangs sometimes on win2k. any idea?
i dont get a smooth video preview playback on my 98se, on win2k it plays fine?
my last question is, when i capture video thru ati and audio thru my echo gina 24, the audio is slighty longer than the video clip, like 2seconds or so, would it be syncing problem? coz i cant seem to get my all-in-wonder to capture video and audio at the same time.
opps.......here is my system. p3 866 512ram, ati all-in-wonder 128, adaptec 1394 firewire, echo gina 24 audio interface, ibm 40g and quantum 40g harddrives, multi-boot win98se and win2k pro and vegas video 3.
please help!

ATI cards are sensitive to IRQ issues when capturing. Make sure that "assign IRQ to VGA card" is enabled in your BIOS, and use the Win2k Device Manager to verify that the video card does not share it's IRQ with any other device. Refer to random posts on this forum and others if you have to try and "move" IRQs around to isolate the video card, it's not a fun task.

thanks for the reply buddy.
i already did that vga thing and i also run win2k on standard pc mode.
here is the irq setting.
firewire on irq 3
gina 24 on irq 4
ati on irq 11
all have own irq, this is how i place my pci cards and get the best result.
any others? thanks again

my advice unfortunately is to get rid of the all in wonder card. these types of problems are common with low-end all-in-one solutions and ATI is notoriously bad when it comes to their drivers. thousands will advise you to go with a DV solution which is so much easier to deal with. so would i.

the sync problem is also common. you can't record with two different devices and expect them to sync up, unless they are talking to eachother and maintaining sync via some internal connection.

you are creating headaches for yourself that can be easily avoided by simplifying your setup. an external DV converter with a 1394 card sounds like a recipe for success.

good luck... - ben
