ATI Rage LT Pro Specs Needed

I have a compaq armada 1750 with a ATI Rage LT Pro card w/ the ability to TV Out (rca video out). I
can not find the specs for this card to find the optimal settings when I do a "render as". I checked
compaq and ATI and have had no luck. I have messed around with the settings and received decent
output quality, but I think I am missing some optimal settings. I am currently outputting a slide show
of scanned pictures with a soundtrack. I am outputting using the NTSC Standard template to .wmv
files using the 1mb transfer rate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Give us more info on the project as to how you want to use
it There may be a better way of doing it. The output from
the composite jack on the ATI card will not be of the
highest quality.

Did you create it with VF?
Is it going to be used as a video tape presentation or
computer based slideshow?
Is the ATI card the only way you have of exporting it from
the computer?

There is no optimal codec per se for TV-out on ATI cards.
It simply outputs what is displayed on the monitor.

Since you're only outputing still pictures, any codec
should do a reasonable job. The standard output resolution
of the ATI cards for TV-out is 640x480 (I think it will
also do 800x600), so your best bet would be to find a codec
that can output in that resolution.

I've had good results with DivX (mpeg4) avi files at the
highest bitrate of 6000, but it takes a lot of computing
horsepower to play back, especially the higher resolution
files (higher than 320x240).

You probably want to try to render to 640x480, then play it
full screen to record on your VCR. The best codec for this
job is probably MPEG1 or MPEG2. The wmv files that you are
creating are only 320x240.

I haven't yet tried the TV-out on my ATI card, so let me
know how those settings work.

Just finished trying my own slide show. I got good results
using MPEG1 & MPEG2, but I had to set the resolution to
720x480 or else the aspect ratio would be off. Either
codec should provide a very clear picture to output to VCR.

I also tried creating a VCD slide show. Even at the VCD
resolution of 352x240, the quality was quite good when
played on a TV. Added one of my favourite Christmas MP3s
with Christmas pictures of the kids and the results were
very good.

JC Thanks for the info and test results this should help.
