Attempted VCD creation elicits my First VV3 Crash Ever

I tried burning my first VCD today, and Vegas -- for the first time ever -- froze on me. Not that it was a troublesome freeze, Vegas even notified me that it was going to quit, but...

I'd still like to fix the issue -- maybe you know how to resolve the problem easily?

I have VV3c build 138 and a Plextor Plexwriter 40/12/40A. I'm running Win2K SP2 on a dual Tyan TigerMP AthlonMP 2000+ system with 1024mb of RAM, an ATI Radeon 8500 128mb and a SB Audigy 1394. The crash happens only after waiting for quite some time for Vegas to look for a disc in my F: drive (the aforementioned CD burner). I have a blank disc inserted, and the seek light on the front of the drive is a persistent glow, but Vegas keeps asking me to insert a disc -- with merely a 'Cancel' button apparent. If I hit Cancel, Vegas doesn't crash and allows me to resume work.

I searched the forum here, figuring the issue might be a recently resolved one, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance to any who can help,

- jim

Jim,

A search on "Plextor" in this forum reveals that several people have had problems with Plextor drives and Vegas Video, but some Plextor users are doing fine. Sonic Foundry is working with Plextor to try to resolve the problem, but apparently the mystery has not been solved yet. A few threads and quotes follow:

Having had to 'junk' a 24/10/40 Plextor, as totally incompatible with VV3, I looked to replace it. After this experience and Plextor's arrogant stance of "All our drives are the same - it's your software vendor's problem not ours", I decided another Plextor model probably wasn't a safe bet. SoFo recommended the TDK 24/10/40, but I couldn't get hold of this model as TDK are now selling the 32 speed model. (Jesus! this industry moves quick!). So... rather than buy a newer non-tested model, I went for the Yamaha 24/10/40 which claims on its web-site to be CD Architect compatible. (The burning function in VV3). However, although this will now do disc-at-once, it will only work at 6-speed maximum.

The above are just some of the "hits" from a "Plextor" search.

Ah, it would have been wise to search for "Plextor" -- sorry :/

Thanks for your response.
