I started out with the Dell Movie Studio II package, which featured the external "Mojave Device" from Dazzle and whatever kind of card Dell installs as the bus interface for the Mojave.

The digital input through the Mojave Device, to that card is supposed to be a staight pass-through; which would imply that the card should be a regular IEEE-1394 card. The odd thing was that I could never get Dell or Dazzle Tech Support to tell me whether it was truely IEEE-1394 compliant or not.

Since my patience was, at that point, at an end, I discarded both the Mojave Device and the interface card. I replaced them with an Adaptec 1394 card and the ADVC-100. To date, the pair has worked beautifully. I get crisp, clean, error free captures of analog video, and if I need to produce back to VHS tape, the results are excellent.

If you are blessed with more tolerance than I am, my suggestion (to save unnecessary expenses) would be to try the ADVC-100 with the Dell card first, and see what happens. If any weirdness occurs, take the Dell card and throw it as far as you can, and replace it with a generic 1394 card. (BTW: The cards fly much better than the Mojave Device, because you can do kind of a frisbee thing with the card, while the Mojave has this nasty cable coming out of it that screws up the aerodynamics.)

P.S. You'll really like the ADVC-100. Great function, great warranty, great product.

Thats why I suggested hockey...Although your right, with that cord on it, it wont even work for that fuction....Surely there is something we can all use our dazzle boxes for ?? the_ripper

I had one possibility in mind:........Perhaps something like the Olympic Hammer event, where we swing the Mojave Device around and around by it's cable, and then let fly...........

I hasten to disagree, Kcarroll. VW5 discs make the best frisbees. I was like Oddjob in the garden and nearly sliced off poor pussy's head.

Allow me to relate a little anectdote first ...

Our local daily newspaper started publishing a weekend edition called "Friends and Neighbors", and delivered it to EVERYONE's doorstep uninvited. It was mostly ads and gossip and no one wanted it. Within a few weeks one would see copies of it scattered everywhere, blowing down the streets like tumbleweed in the old westerns. So one night a few of us grabbed a box of 50 of the large "lawn & leaf" trash bags, picked up all the stray papers, and dumped about 3 truckloads of them on the front door of the newspaper office. Now "Friends and Neighbors" is only available from local checkout aisles ... if you want it.

*ahem* back to the case in point.

Perhaps if several thousand of you Movie Studio users were to mail your Mohave Devices to Michael Dell's home (via registered mail of course, so you can prove later that you owned one when the eventual refunds are made available) .... ;)

The "mail them to Michael Dell's home" thing is an interesting idea;............but wouldn't we be risking being charged and prosecuted for "Sending Offensive Material Through the Mail"?

OK, good point. Send it UPS. They only regulate hazardous materials, not offensive ones ;)
