Attn Spot: Another Vegas 6 issue

Along with my confusion over Spots comments in his article about XDCAM compatibility that I have yet to find the solution to, I have also found another little annoyance.

I've just imported VEGs into a project so I can try using it a master timeline for a long form project. The VEGs imported just fine. However, even though the project is set to PAL DV widescreen progressive scan, and all the nested VEG properties are also set to PAL DV widescreen progressive scan, the preview window refuses to show the picture stretched out to it's correct aspect. Instead it keeps it in squashed 4:3 form.

I've tried switching the 'maintain aspect ratio' option on and off, but it makes no difference.

So 2 questions;

1. How do I import XDCAM MXF files as Spot mentioned in his article?
and
2. How do I get the preview window to show anamorphic DV footage stretched out to it's correct shape as Vegas 5 used to do?

Damn. Forgot to change the preview window to simulate the aspect ratio! Doh! It's been such a long time since I ever went near that option!

Now, just the XDCAM thing to sort out!

Yesterday I saw MXF files simply being dragged straight to the timeline. Did you try that?

Yep, I've tried it. It just won't take them. If I drag from the explorer onto the timeline nothing happens. I'll try it again just to be sure.

Forgot to add that it is encouraging that you have seen it working, so it gives me some hope. I'll let you know in a sec.

Nope, it doesn't work. The camera is in FAM mode so it is operating as another drive. Even if I copy the MXF to my hard drive and try to put it on the timeline Vegas still won't accept it. It sayd "None of the files dropped on Vegas could be opened". If I try dragging straight from Windows Explorer I simply get the circle with the slash through it indicating that I cant drop that file type onto the timeline.

Any ideas?

Simon,
We have been demonstrating this as a technology preview (elsewhere and at NAB), but this feature is not currently shipping.

This feature is expected to ship as a future update to Vegas 6.0.

Thanks,
Matt

Arrrghhh!!

Thanks anyway. Hope it won't be too long before the update is ready!! This is one feature I and a lot of other XDCAMmers are crying out for!
