Audio and Video out of sync on rendered AVI

I have a very simple project. That is to capture a DV tape, and imort a wav file of the audio.

I ligned up the wav file with the camera audio so they are in perfect sync in Vegas.

I cut off the beginnng and end and put a fade in both the wav file and the video file. That camera audio was muted.

I rendered an AVI file and the audio and video are almost half a second out of sync.

I have the same problem in both Vegas 8 and 6.

What's wrong? Last time I had to do this simple project I had the same problem and was forced to use FCP. So a five minute job took over an hour! But at least the audio and video were in sync.

By trial and error I found a work around. I adjusted the audio track by +.05 units. I don't know what unit of measure it is.

I hope I can get this solved.

Are you sure they were in sync from beginning to end?
Sometimes a separate audio source can drift out of sync slightly as, for what ever reason, both devices record at a very slightly different speed.
It can be adjusted in Vegas, if that's the case. Just ask.
To check, zoom in on the timeline at the beginning and see how well the wave patterns match from both sources. Then go to the end of the project and zoom in on the timeline again and check to see if they stayed in sync. If not, the fix is easy.

the clip was five minutes long and there were some good pops at the beginning and end to line things up. But the same thing happens when i render the camera audio.

What type of AVI file? What sample rate was the audio?

Were they in sync on the timeline at beginning and end?

What type of camera?

What device was the external audio recorded on?

They were in sync on the timeline, the AVI file was DV, 48k 16bit audio

The camera was a canon, I'm not shure of the model, but like $1500 mini DV camera

The audio was recorded on a PC at 16bit 44.1k, then processed and converted to 48k.

Everything was in perfect sync in the timeline.
