Audio CD finishes before the end!

I recently did several audio CDs for a Dancing School client - music for their exams. I burned them in Vegas 12 Pro.

On four occasions, the last track of the disc ended prematurely, about two seconds before the music ended. The client found these - I had checked that each track started ok but hadn't thought of checking the end!

To solve the problem, I had to move the red end marker of the last track about three seconds beyond the end of the event, then the CD worked as it should.

Has anyone else had this error? It's not to do with overall duration - these CDs were about 6 mins each. It didn't happen on every disc, which is more unsettling - aren't computers meant to be consistent?

I tried opening one project in V13Pro and burning, and it reproduced the same problem until I moved the end marker beyond ther last event.

Were your original audio sources that had the problems MP3s? I have had this happen with VBR MP3's. convert them to wavs first.

I've burned several Audio CD's using Vegas Pro, and I haven't seen the problem you describe. I found prepping the Events with Regions to be a pain so I added a feature to Timeline Tools that will prep the Track with a single Button Click. In the Markers, Regions & FX tab, select the Audio Track containing the Song title Events from the listbox in the upper right section of the screen. Next, press the Add CD Event Regions Button. Lastly select the Vegas Tools / Burn Disk / Disk-at-Once Audio CD menu selection.

If you want to add gaps between the Tracks before prepping the Track, use the Adjust Gaps, Event Length, Overlap & Fade radio button choice in the Track Tools & Options tab. Check the box to the left of the Event Size input field to prevent changes in event length.. Then check the Force no Event Overlap checkbox. Lastly enter you Gap size and Fade In/Out size in your selected units. Or from the Fade Type drop down list choose to Ignore any Fade adjustment. Then press the Adjust Events button.

Hi Dave,

No they were wav files, 44,100 Hz, 16 bit stereo.

Very strange ...

Thanks Gary.

I have TT and followed your first paragraph, and the resulting CD played right to the end.

I then deleted the CD Event regions which TT had placed and again used the Vegas Tools to replace them. This time te last track of the CD ended prematurely, a couple of seconds early.

The strange thing was that both Timeline Tools and Vegas Tools identically placed the final marker at the end of the final event as expected, but the Vegas burn was faulty, where the TT burn was fine - both using the built in Vegas / Tools / Burn Disk / Disk at Once Audio CD.

Peter, the only thing I might be doing different is that I insure the Region end-points fall on or within the span of each audio event, to the closest video frame point based on the current project settings.

In other words, if the beginning or end of an audio event falls between a point that would be a video frame, I adjust the end points so they're positioned on the video frame point. This shouldn't be necessary for burning an audio CD, but it seems to work.
