Audio channel, but not sound when capturing

Hey Guys -

When I capture DV direct from the camera, it captures an audio track, but there is nothing audible when I play it - just a flat line on the audio track.
When I play the tape in the camera it sounds just fine.
I have tried capturing to both my laptop and my work PC with Vegas 6.0c on I get the same result.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

When you say "direct from the camera," is this connected via Firewire? Or are you connecting via RCA audio and video cables into a capture card? The latter can easily mute audio if you don't have the record enabled for "line in."

Also, look in the setup for your camera. There is more than one audio track on a DV tape, and it is possible that either your camera or capture software settings are configured to capture the second audio track.

Those are the only things I can think of off the top of my head, but others will certainly have additional ideas.

I was connecting via the USB cable that came with the camera - and have had not problem in the past. I was using a wireless mike which comes across fine when played back through the camera.

USB will very rarely pass the audio correctly, dependent on a lot of variables; firewire is the way to get vid in/out of Vegas. (Or your computer at all)
