Audio "clicks"

Quite often, I will sometimes hear a "click" in the audio in my project. When played in another player, the video clips do not contain the clicks. The clicks sometimes show up in the time line (so I know they are there)- But sometimes, if I delete the clip and reapply it, the click is gone. What's going on here? I can't be making renders with these clicks!

Dude, we need to know what kind of audio format that is. And if it's easily reproducible, you could upload a test somewhere so we can check it out.

Audio: 48,000 Hz. 5.1 surround Sound (Stereo down mix) Dolby AC3.

It's so strange. Sometimes, a clip will suddenly acquire the click. Also, it seems that sometimes, by changing the stream to stream 2, the click is gone. BUT THEN, the click still makes a sound in the final render!

My camera is a Sony SR5. It records in 5.1 sound. But, in my projects (don't ask why) I wasn't using surround sound. I switched over (going into surround mode) thinking that was the problem, but I'm still getting clicks.

Make sure you have updated to the latest version of Sony Platinum 8.0d. If that doesn't fix it, send a bug report at Sony via their online form.

Lol. How can I tell if I have the latest version? I just bought the software, and the update I saw was from April 2008...?

Click Help, About. The newest update is 8.0d. If yours doesn't say 8.0d, you got the old stuff, in which case you need to download the free update.

As I understand, the clicks are only in the preview of the video, and they occur at random? It's not a bug, just a setting that needs to be changed.
It is caused by memory issues. To avoid this, you must create a bigger audio buffer: click Options<preferences tab 'audio device'. Play around with 'playback buffering' (mine is at 0.54) until you get a positive result.

Let me clarify: the clicks occur in the preview and the final render. The clicks are random where they appear, but then if the video is played in that same spot, the click will be there. i'll try your suggestion Ivan.

did you do what i said to update to the latest free version?

Yes, I have the latest version. I tried Ivan's suggestion and that did not work.

Then there is nothing we can do to fix it here. You will have to send a bug report at Sony via their email form on this site, and hope that the new version of Platinum has this bug fixed.
