Audio Crossfade Only

I've searched all over this board, but can't find the specific answer I am looking for.

I edit weddings. I want to keep a straight cut, but crossfade on the audio. Is there a simple way to apply the transition to the audio only? I know I get a crossfade when I overlap the events, but I don't want all the extra work of ungrouping to take away the video crossfade that was created.

I am working w/VMS 4.0.

I used to work with Cinestream (anyone even heard of it? LOL). Actually, I thought it was great and am sorry it died off. It let you add a crossfade to the audio track without effecting the video. It also allowed for unlimited video and audio tracks and FX tracks. Miss it, but am finally getting used to Vegas Movie Studio.

Any help would be much appreciated!

What you should try to do is right click on the video layer that is grouped with the audio and select "Group" , then select "Remove from" and then try. The video track is now ungrouped with the audio track.

PS. i did this with Vegas Movie Studio 7.0a so in not sure if it'll work with your version.

You could put the video on separate tracks so that there's an overlap and put the audio on the same track so that it crossfades. That would get messy if you wanted to do it all the time though!

How about pressing the control button and left click on the edge of the audio ( you will see a box with a squiggly line below it) and just stretch the audio a tiny bit. If you stretch it a long ways the sync will be ugly, but you could get away with a little I think. Then slide it up to the next clip.

Have you looked at the various types of video crossfades? if you right click on the default you can select different ones. perhaps you may find one that suits you and you wont have to do all the extra work.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I want to note that I am using VMS 6.0b. I have no idea why I said 4.0.

I have looked at all the crossfades and transitions. I sort of can't believe that going back to a straight cut isn't an option. Or, what I really want, which is adding the crossfade to the audio only.

I was hoping someone knew a trick I hadn't found yet. I've been chugging along overlapping, then ungrouping, and dragging the video back in place to remove the video crossfade. Seems like way more work than necessary. I am used to editing all the way through and going back to add transitions after. The way VMS makes me work seems to be taking much too long, and this is the easy edit stuff during the reception. I just don't like the way the audio cuts hard. The crossfade over about 10 frames sounds much better. Though, I am sure it's one of those things the customer will never notice either way.

Thank you, again, for your thoughts and input.
