Audio Dedicated Hard Drive

I have syncronisation problems with some of the wave files
on any given Vegas project plus the whole project as a
tendency to "slow down" as the project get bigger regardless
what the reference meters are saying (ram usage, disk
usage). The syncronisation problems can get worst if I play
the project from the start and the problematic wave files
are somewhere in the middle of the project. Most of the time
I use Vegas with Acid 1.0. Either one of them can be
generating the time code. And the projects are quite
"normal" in terms of number of tracks, events and total
lenght. For now I am using a Seagate ST39173LW SCSI DRIVE
partitioned in two. My plan to fix my sync and "slow down"
problems is to buy a second hard drive that will be used
solely for waves.
My question is :Will there be a significant improvement if I
buy a Hard drive that runs at 10,000 rpm with a seek time of
5.x ms compare to one that is 7,200 rpm/7.4 ms ?
Any other suggestions to fix those recurrent problems are
more then welcome.

System specifications :

Motherboard : ABIT BX6
CPU : Pentium III 450
HD : Seagate 9.1 ST39173LW
H.D Controller : Adaptec PCI/2930U2
RAM : 256 MB
Video Card : ATI All-in -Wonder 128 (16 MB)
Sound Card : Echo's Layla
CD-Rom's : Yamaha CRW4416S-NB
Toshiba DVD 6X SDM1212

Thanx

Pierre

Hello Pierre
Are you using Layla for both Vegas and Acid at the same time?
I do run Vegas and Acid at the same time but Vegas uses the MOTU-2408
and Acid uses Darla. As far as HD you have a good system you should
be able to get up to 80mb per sec.I do run a SCSI drive just for
audio because if your main drive C dumps on you, all of your audio
file are still good to go.I lost most of my first Acid loop CD
because of NOT having a audio drive,Yes you can back it up to CDR's
but that a lot of CD's because of every time you make a change.Hope
this helps
