Audio delay in headphones

Rock DJ wrote on 8/31/2010, 2:37 PM
Since upgrading to Windows 7,using Vegas 9 Pro, I can no longer monitor voice recordings in my headphones as there is a delay while recording the voice.
I never experienced this problem with XP Pro or with other versions of Vegas. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can fix this, as it is pretty annoying.

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile.

Are you monitoring through Vegas or are you using your sound card's built in monitoring capabilities?

What audio hardware are you using?
What is your ASIO buffer setting?

What's more to the point, are you sure that your audio interface actually has an ASIO driver installed and selected that works in W7 ?

An ASIO driver is necessary to reduce the processing delay.

Hi SonyPCH

I had Sound Blaster Audigy 64-bit installd when I had the PC Built.
It is supposed to be capable of HD quality sound (24 bit and 7.1)

I don't know what an ASIO buffer is could you explain where I find it

Hi Geoff

Once I work out what an ASIO is I will check to see if there is a driver installed.

Thanks for your assistance

First check you have the latest Drivers for your Sound Blaster card. Always Reboot after updating drivers.

In VegasPro, if you navigate to Menu |Options|Preferences|Audio Device Tab
- near top there you will see an entry "Audio Device type:" and a few choices... one of them will mention ASIO if it's available.

Hi Christo

There is no mention of ASIO on the Vegas Audio Device options.......also the Drivers are up to date on the SB - I just checked.
What I do get is an error message when I try to do a diagnostic on the SB which says "this device is not currently supported - please close the device"
So I am a bit stumped!

I believe this is not a Vegas issue, but I'm interested to see an answer for this - a lot of win 7 people post about this problem on all kinds of software with all kinds of audio hardware. Just google it to see what I mean. :-/

I suspect it might be something to do with hardware that doesn't support ASIO. But I cannot confirm.

Cheers,
