audio effects

I have received a second email from Sony on how to remove the "beep" from the audio restoration plugin from VMS Platinum 7. Either their advice doesn't work or I'm just doing it wrong. The first one said to download and install the update from the Sony site. I did and there's still a beep. The second email said to run the migration tools options. I click on them and a brief, black window appears for a split-second and then goes away. If this is "running" the migration tools option, then that didn't work either.

So, my question is this: is there an equivilant audio effect plugin to use instead of the audio restoration plugin? Will I still have good sound without it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

From memory, the audio restoration plugin is just a simple noise gate - anything below a user defined threshold is cut off, anything above it is allowed through. If you need it you can use something like Audacity (freeware) to do much more sophisticated audio editing.
