Audio - external program

If I try to use an external program for editing/cleaning up audio (RX Elements/Audacity) the manual for Movie Studio Platinum 16 (17 still not working) says that I can save the edited file with the same name and it will automatically replace the audio in the video file. How does this work? In for instance audacity I have to export the file as a wav file. Then it will not get the same name and I will have to import it on for instance an extra audiotrack. Is there a simpler way to do this? I am not able to figure this out.

I'm not sure how it works with a third-party program with Audacity, but Magix Sound Forge program will open the file directly from Vegas and then save the effected file as a Take for the event on your timeline.

I found the solution in the Vegas Pro forum :

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp18-and-sf14--125207/

So I made a copy of the audio file and tried it with Isotope Elements and did a normalize test. Thereafter I saved the file and it was automatically saved as a new take on the audio track.

I did the same thing with Audacity, but Audacity did not have the 'file-save' option so I have to export it with the same name as the copy. Thereafter I closed Audacity. Back in MS 16 I could not use 'T' to switch between the original audio and the two extra takes on the audio track.

Very elegant !
