Audio FX stops simultaneously with playback?!

Hi,

I am used, as an audio engineer, to test any reverb effects during editing by stopping the playback and listening to the slowly decaying echoes. This works in other programs, not to mention tape machines...

Can this be done in Vegas Pro 8? For example, the FX reverb added on a track stops also immediately when stopping the playback. I would like to have a mode where these realt-time FX-still runs at least for a while so you can hear the tail.

Probably I'm not the only one that would like this feature... Can it be done by changing some settings somewhere?

Christian

I'm not aware of any setting that will accomplish this. An easy solution would be to cut off your audio clip abruptly and continue playing on the time line. This way you would stop feeding audio into the reverb but still have the FX playback continue.

You can't do this in vegas using the transport controls, but you can achieve the same end using the Mute control.

Set up your reverb on a bus (or an assignable FX) and use the track multipurpose slider to route some of the audio to the bus (or assignable FX). Adjust the settings of the reverb to full wet. Then start playing and when you want to hear just the reverb tail, click on the track mute button. This will mute the direct sound, but the sound from the plugin (the reverb tail) will continue.

Hi Mark,

Thank's for your post! The brilliand method you describe is a good workaround for the problem. However, it requires some work especially at multitrack editing... I hope that SCS could consider, as a feature addition, to add this kind of functionality. An old analog era-recording engineer (as myself) would feel more like "home" ;)

Christian

... However this would be a major pain if you *didn't* specifically want to listen to reverb tails in isolation.

Not quite as straightforward as it would seem, as Vegas would need to be a switch per effect, and would need to be told exactly how long to go on for after 'Stop', or some other threshold. Otherwise, if ignoring your actual Stop command, how would Vegas know when to actually, um..... stop !

To listen to reverb tail on a soloed track if reverb is on master or a bus (which apart from a special track effect, is probably more usual...), simply mute the track while playing. If you are listening to the reverb tail on a number of tracks, then instead of in-line it should be a bus effect anyway !
