Check this post. Also, I recommend you use the ATI software for capturing to AVI and then use the Explorer view in VF to grab your media.

Thanks for the repply.

The ATI software only saves as MPEG2. Since I need to send SonicFoundry more money to be able to import, I was looking for a different solution.

I'm new to this but had similar problem. Make sure your camcorder does not have a variable audio out volume control. If it does, crank it up to near max. Also, turn off "preview audio" option in the capture module. This combination worked for me and it didn't matter that the audio was not preview through computer, because my camera was loud enough.

You need to select "Custom" for capture quality. You can then select from a number of templates including AVI templates, or set your own AVI properties.
