Audio lag

Running Vegas 3.0 I've developed a problem with audio lagging about 1 tenth of a second behind video. Lip sync is OK when I play an mpg clip using Windows Media Player but when I load the same clip into Vegas and play it, I get a sound delay. If I copy the sound track, clip off .1 second from the beginning, delete the original, and paste the copy back, synchronization is fairly good.. I've defraged the disk, took all non-essential programs out of memory but can't find the problem.. would GREATLY appreciate any suggestions. The problem got worse after installing Alarm Zone but have since removed it along with any memory intense programs such as virus scanners, etc. Someone kindly give me a clue on what the problem might be.. either posted or to my emal address. Thanks a bunch.
Dale

have you rendered a project to see what the finished piece will look like? I wonder if it's a preview issue and won't appear in your final mix down/render

Sean,
Thanks for reply... yes, I've rendered it both in MPG and AVI.. same lag. Actually I can SEE the lag on the timeline! Watching someone's lips form a word on the video line, I can look below on the audio line and find the words being spoken about .1 to .3 seconds later. Curiously, when I load the same clip into Vegas 4.0 on a different computer, there is no lag.. so I removed and then re-installed Vegas 3.0 on the 1st computer and the lag is still there.

Sounds like a soundcard/driver issue. What soundcard ? What OS ?
