what is the format and source of your video?

It's Divx, because I couldn't get a better video converter to get the footage from the DVD. Should I convert it to an Mpeg file after or something?

Known bug. I have the same problem with many XViD and DivX videos. One thing that helped me a bit lately, was to uninstall the DivX codec and install the latest XViD one.

You could try following steps 1 through 6 of THIS to get an mpeg file.

What's the difference between DivX and XViD?

Isn't there a "File / Import / DVD Camcorder Disc" function in Vegas Studio? I thought it appeared there before showing up in the Pro version.

Yes, there is. That would be the better way to import a *non-commercial*, *unprotected* DVD.

True, my assumption was the opposite. If the format of the video from said DVD is Divx, it's unlikely it was, at least, from a camera.

Information about the type of DVD would help and even the program used to get the file off of the DVD.

I got a download for XviD, but how do I use it?

You uninstall DivX, you install the XViD codec, and that's it. In my case, it helped with the lag.
