Audio monitoring question

Hi, I would think this question is pretty routine stuff, but cannot figure it out! Please help me:
The question is as to why I cannot hear 'simultaneous recording and plyback' in Vegas Audio. I have selected this option in the Options menu. I have one track already recorded. Now I want to record into track 2, while listening to both track 1(recorded) and track 2(being recorded) on my headphone. I have routed both track 1 &2 to same bus in the track header. I hear only track 1 in my headphone and not what is being recorded in track 2 ( I know I am recoding in track 2 because I can see the waveform)
Thanks much.

What audio card/interface are you using? Many times monitoring is setup through that, and not Vegas. Also, some people prefer working with external mixers for a latency-free monitor path.

In more current versions of Vegas there is Input Monitoring, which may also work if you are using an ASIO audio device - you can check this in Preferences. I believe there may be a bit of latency (delay), and alot of people just can't use it because of this, but it's another possible option.

I see what you are saying. I am using Delta 66 card w/ breakout box and Mackie 1402vlz mixer. I take Vegas output into one of the channel inputs of Mackie mixer and monitor it thru the headphones. I think what you are saying is that I should only listen to Track 1(pre-recorded) thru Vegas output and the Track 2 which I am currently recording directly from the mixer output. However I am not sure how to route the two together in the Mackie mixer. Let me see if I can figure that out.

You should instead just use the Delta mixer, you can route the signal to hear both what you are recording and what was recorded. I had a Delta card and it worked.
