Audio Normalizatio (sometimes) sets event mute

mhbstevens wrote on 7/29/2004, 10:21 PM
If I go down a series of captured events and audio normalize them it all works just as expected except the odd event becomes a flat liner - sound set to nothing! If I THEN go to properties and "recalculate normalization" the event is returned to its original state but still not correctly normalized. Any ideas anyone?

This happens to me too. I can't explain why. But I seem to be able to get around it somehow. I'm not exactly sure yet, what it is that makes it work. Usually I'll either trim something off or I'll align it up better, with the adjoining piece. Then I'll hit 'Normalize', again, and it works. Go figure. When you try re-aligning it, zoom way in, on the space between the two sections and carefully bring them together (keeping one finger on 'Shift' key, while dragging). Works for me. Don't know why.

I get this too. It usually happens when I multi-select evets to be normalized.

As this seems a common problem with no posted solution let's hope the Sony tecks respond.

We're not seeing this here, so if someone could give us a concrete repro, it would be a real help, and would allow us to track this problem down further.

Specifically, the repro should be as simple and direct as possible, and should produce the problem 100% of the time. I've included an example, so that you can see what I mean.

(Hypothetical Repro)

Note: (Starting Vegas with Default Preferences will erase your preferences.)

1. Open Vegas with default preferences by Ctrl-Shift starting Vegas.
2. Add a video event to the timeline and close the resulting Properties window.
3. Open the Pan/Crop dialog by clicking the Pan/Crop button on the R edge of the event.
4. In the resulting window, give focus to the "crop" control (The "F")
5. Press the arrow keys.
6. Notice that the crop window doesn't move.

This is obviously a hypothetical example, but you get the idea.

Hope this helps!

This is a different situation, but it leads to the same result:

Right-mouse-click event and selecting Switches / Normalize while peaks are being built will lead to the flatline and silence every time. I don't know if it's related to what others are seeing or not.

Yep, I'm seeing this and have added it to the bug database. We will look into this for a future update.

Thanks.
