Audio only coming out on one speaker

I've combined many HD pics and a few SD videos of underwater shots to make a Blu Ray. Rather than just hear bubbles the whole time, I added music tracks of my favorite tunes. When I use MPEG-2 or Sony AVC w/ 5.1 surround with 1,920×1,080 25P , it previews fine, but when I render, the music only comes out to one speaker. Anybody?

Does the waveform on the music clip you've added to your timeline show audio on both channels? And have you ensured that you've used it on a stereo rather than 5.1 audio track?

And is your final output video (or the video you send to DVD Architect) stereo or 5.1?

BTW, using standard def video in a hi-def project is never a good idea. All you get it a BluRay with blurry video on it. Putting it on a BluRay doesn't make the video hi-def.

Steve,

Thanks for responding. The reason for the Blu Ray is really the HD pics as part of a slideshow. I understand about the SD vids. I only put those in there to be in one place. Anyway, yes, it shows audio in both channels, but after its rendered, its only in one! What I send to DVD Architect is in 5.1. However, before I even place it in Architect, I watch the video in Media Player and sound is only coming out of one speaker. I placed the music in the "music" track of Vegas and made sure its centered. What leads me to believe its in the rederinng is when I preview it, its fine. Then after I render, music is only in one channel!

Do you have DVD Architect Studio? I understand it does not support 5.1 AC3 for BluRay. DVD Architect Pro has full support.

What audio format are you selecting for your output from Vegas?

Well,

File --> Properties ---> Audio --> Master Bus Mode: 5.1
Save As type: Sony AVC (*.mp4, *.m2ts,*.avc)
Render --> Template: AVCHD 1920x1080-60i 5.1 Surround
Custom --> Audio
Include Audio is checked
Audio Format: Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio

I hope that helps and thanks for helping me! I'll owe ya one if you solve it!

How are you testing this M2TS file? Are you playing it on your computer and just listening through your computer's speakers?

As an experiment, open a new project and set the properties for AVCHD 1920x1080 5.1 audio, then import this video into it.

Watch the audio Mixer (next to the Preview window) and see if it's registering audio playing back on all 5 tracks. Open the panel wide so you can see the Mixer metering for Front, Rear, Center and LFE. (This will tell us if maybe the reason you're not hearing audio from both speakers has to do with a limitation of your player software.)
