Audio Pitch during scene detection

haywire wrote on 12/24/2001, 10:03 AM
Merry Christmas to all.

The last two times I got to play with my new VV30, I let the capture utility divide my video into scenes. What I noticed was that the audio took a dive in pitch during the last few frames of each scene. I haven't taken the time to measure the shift, but it sounds initially as if it's an entire octave. It hasn't hurt me since I always shoot long, but I wonder if anyone else has experienced this.

What camera are you using...Canon Optura maybe?

Camera is a Canon ZR20

We believe this is a camera problem, specific to lower-end Canon DV cams. We've seen it with the Canon Optura as well.

I'm sorry, but saying that my solution is to buy another brand of camera or a higher end camera makes little sense to me. The camera simply plays back the data stream(s) through the firewire port, and the software takes it from there. For instance, I can say that I have had success capturing video with Pinnacle's Studio 7 which does scene detection, and my lower end Canon camera, and therefore since I've seen this problem only with Vegas Video, it must be a Vegas problem. Either statement does nothing to solve the problem, which is why I submit questions to the forum. Solutions....

I've heard of Canon camera problems with the Canopus products as well. I think it has something to do with them not being at the DV Standard (I'm just guessing here).

Perhaps Sonic can fix this issue. Is anyone else having this problem with Canon cameras?

I'm using an older ZR10 w/ no problems. Maybe your camera is too new.

Perhaps as a workaround, there is a way to disable scene detection. I don't mind working with a long file in the trimmer. Anyone know if you can disable scene detection in Vidcap 3.0??

No, I haven't noticed it with my ZR10, but I do get the odd lag problem with VV3 capture. No lag with MSP, P6, or SC-Live.

I've just noticed my external firewire speed drops about 10MB/s if I put the ZR10 in pause, so it looks like there is *some* sort of issue with these things, but I/m not at all sure what's going on here so maybe best just ignore my ramblings.
