I am running Vegas 8.1 on my new 64bit laptop and the audio plug ins are all missing. Could I have done something wrong? On my desktop they are all there but none on my laptop. Any ideas how to re-install? Help please!
Anyone have a solution to this problem? I opened a veg that has wavehammer in it and it shows up as unregistered. They are missing in 8 and 7 also. They seem to be there in 6. This is mainly a hobby for me, I can't for the life of me imagine how anyone can make a living with this program.
Edit: Reinstalled V9.0c and still gone. This program is terrible.
Edit: Went back to a restore point - still all missing. Sheesh!
Edit: Had to go back to V6, and of course I cannot copy the lower 3rd that I created in V9, so I have to do it all over again to meet my deadline. Love it!
Edit: I neglected to mention that this occurred in V9.0c.
It sounds like you may be running an older version of WaveHammer and somehow Vegas has lost track of the plug-in as you have installed and uninstalled software packages. If you open the plug-in's about box, what version number do you see?
You might be able to recover WaveHammer's registration by manually unregistering the plug-in and then re-installing Vegas 9.
To manually un-register the plug-in:
1) Find the folder that contains "sfhammer.dll"
2) Open a command prompt (Windows Menu->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt), then right click on command prompt and "run as administrator"
3) CD to the folder that contains the plug-in.
3) Enter the command "regsvr32 /u sfhammer.dll"
After you re-install Vegas 9, drag and drop sfhammer.dll onto Vegas to re-register the plug-in.
SonyMLogan,
There is no file called "sfhammer.dll" anywhere on my system. Also the problem occurred before I uninstalled-installed version 9. It just cropped up. All of the audio plugins are available in version 6, which I am now using to finish my project. I appreciate your attempt, but it didn't help. Just to make it clear, ALL of the audio plugins are gone.
Went thru the (painful) removal of ALL Sony software related to Vegas and re-installed V 9.0c and I STILL do not have the audio plugins! The default ones on an audio track show as unregistered, and there are none available to apply. What the F***! I am starting to really hate this program.
Jerry,
you have my sympathy.
First, select Options/Preferences from the menu and then select the VST Effects tab. Here you can add path(s), paths where your audio plug-ins reside.
Secondly, have a look at this thread which I started a while ago and see if you can get any hints here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=4&MessageID=680733
And I am with you - I have hated Vegas and SCS software a lot because of these issues, issues that they do not seem to get rid of for some reason. No other application I know of have these issues. It is related to Registry, Access rights and a combination of install issues etc. etc. Sony support even suggest that you uninstall a lot of things to get these issues solved, even the .Net framework (!).
Why can't they fix this.. I wonder.
When all this is said - I love their applications so much (when they work properly) that I went through all the hassle.. yes.
If you read the thread I linked in above, you will see that I finally formatted my harddisk and installed Vista again from scratch.
An advice though, even if it will not help you here:
Always use Control panel to uninstall SCS software. Never touch the registry that has anything to do with SCS. Never use any 3rd party uninstaller (Ashampoo and the like) when it comes to SCS software and/or plug-ins that interact with Vegas or any other SCS software.
That is all I can say.
Ok - one more, if these plug-ins are COM-servers, you can be helped my registering them, manually (if the SCS install failed to do so)
Edited:
Here is one suggestion more:
Log in as another user with admin rights (if you have none, create one)
Install Vegas for "all users". See if this helps, and see if you can use Vegas and the sound plug-ins from this user account.
Yet another suggestion:
Do as I suggest above. Then uninstall from the new account, log out and log in to your usual account. Install Vegas again. When I once fought a tough battle with Vegas, Sound Forge and the other SCS software, I solved a similar issue byt switching user and installing/uninstalling Vegas. For this to work I think you proably are best served when completely logging out (not only switching user).
To sum it up - being successful with SCS software install and registry issues is black art, black magic. Sometimes I am successful, but I am really not sure why, afterwards..
