Audio pool / playlist - correct wav file order

Geoff_Wood wrote on 5/20/2001, 12:55 AM
I name my files for a project as , say, 01.wav, 02.wav ....09.wav, 10.wav, 11.wav, 12.wav .

If I select a bunch of files and 'Add' to Audio Pool, they alway seem to come up in the same weird oder:

01,12,11,10,09,08,07,etc.

How do I need to name them so that I don't have to blow away the Playlist, then re-add them one at a time to get the correct order.

The simplest way is to drag and drop them individually from Windows Explorer into CDA. I've had the same problem and with different programs when selecting multiple files, whether using CTRL+click or SHIFT+click. It seems to be a Windows anomaly.

Here is another way. If you have 6 files numbered 01 to 06, select the first 3 (01,02,03) and they will drop into CDA OK. Any more than 3 will be corrupted. Then go back and grab the next 3 tracks. They will end up in CDA in correct order. Another way is to open CDA, Right click Start button, open FIND, select all files with *wav extension, then reorder (to get numerical order), select the lot, and drag them into CDA.

You may be interested to know that this is not a problem with CD-A, but with Windows. You will see the same thing happen if you drag and drop a bunch of files into almost ANY program. (Some programmers do correct for this problem when they write drag-and-drop operations because there is, in fact, a predictable pattern. But the authors of CD-A appear not to have made this adjustment.)
