Audio problem

Due to Windowx XP crash...
I had to reinstall VF 2.0c. (Clean all old file residue, defrag etc..)
It seems OK.
But I have an audio problem.
I managed to salvage my project and I'm able to watch it.The sound is not 100% but audible, and much weaker now. The sound of new captures is awful... Like coming from a pipe...eccho etc...and very weak. The volume on VF is about full and the speakers almost at max in order to hear. The video part is fine.

I am using Dazzle DV-bridge to capture. Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

Was this a file you capture before the crash?

If so, then there is probably something wrong with the soundcard. Either you need new drivers, or the soundcard has some hardware problem.

Thanks DaveT2.

The rescued project and new captures have a very weak sound.
When I play CDs the sound is fine. What else can I check and how to see if the sound card is in trouble ?
I getting very frustated.....

Is the sound OK when you print to tape? If so, then the problem is the sound card. I don't have XP, but on earlier versions of Windows, there is an "Advanced" button (or buttons) on the mixer control (the one that comes up when you double-click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of your screen). Click on those buttons and see if there is some sort of audio boost. Also make sure that none of your outputs is muted.

Thanks Johnmeyer...
After having a major error in Windows Xp that created an error report, I checked the speaker icon, and sure enough is was on mute....though I had checked before and it was not there.... but now the sound is much better but not as strong as before....all my buttons are in the middle of the range....
I am a bit more confident now... but I don't know what to expect from Windows XP...
Thanks again and I will try later on to see if it stuck to the right sound levels...
I am not an expert on trouble shootings and " I like to drive, but don't know what is under the hood"
I was so exited on doing my editing, titles,, and was at the point of editing the voice and sound when the whole thing crashed.... I don't know yet how to pass the project onto tape.... I am taking one step at a time...
In the meantime I lost part of my fonts. I don't remember how I loaded "lucida handwriting", but maybe someone just knows what program includes that particular font which I used for my whole project.... I sure wish to get it back.... Minor detail for some but a sad one for me....
One step forward 3 backward....

I have the same problem but I found that if I set the audio to "line in" instead of the default "mixed" then the echo effect was fixed (this is set through the pull down audio ->creative soundblaster pci properties). I believe that if you set it once and save your settings ie. default.sfvidcap then the next time you recall these settings it should take you audio settings. You may have to recapture the video to fix this problem.

hope this helps

Thanks Ian.
I will try to-morrow and see if it fixes my problem.
It is strange that all the sudden these problems pop up...
I will probably have to render my movie even though it is not quite finish... just in case I loose the whole thing entirely....
I didn't expect to run into this kind of trouble...
C'est la vie...
