Audio Problem with DV-AVI File

beckster2001 wrote on 2/22/2008, 6:08 PM
I made a movie in Windows Movie Maker and turned it into a DV-AVI. It plays all the way through with no problems in Windows Media Player. Then I imported the file into Sony DVD Architect Studio and only the first 3.5 minutes of sound come in, then it's silent for the remaining 9 minutes. I cannot figure this out and my deadline for getting this DVD finished is quickly approaching. I've put too much work into this clip to completely redo it in another program. Please, oh please help me!
Thanks!!

Try putting the AVI on a Vegas timeline and rendering that out to Dolby Digital AC3. Then in DVDA, navigate into the movie, go to the Track Media tab of the Media Properties window, select the Audio 1 setting and click the arrow to its right. Finally, choose Replace and browse for the AC3 file you just created.

While you're at it, though it's not required, you might want to consider following similar steps for your video -- sending that out to MPEG2 from Vegas and using the DVD Architect video stream template. In fact, in this case, you can just delete your movie from the DVDA project and add this new MPEG2. If you give the MPE2 and AC3 the same name (other than the extension) and have them in the same folder, DVDA will pick up the AC3 file automatically.

When importing into Vegas, it says

"The audio proxy file has been truncated at the point where the audio stream format changed for the following media file:

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\My Documents\My Videos\Amy & Justin's Video\AJHighlightsFinal.avi"

I noticed where the audio goes out on DVDA, there is a break in clips in Windows Movie Maker....but I can't find any settings that are off. This is driving me nuts.

OK. I figured that out....I made the movie as a High Quality NTSC instead of an AVI. Now when watching the DVD, it is really dark on part of the video (it's a wedding reception). Any ideas on how to fix?

I've been having the same problem for the past month and have tried every solution advised. Movie plays fine in windows and even in the DVD Architect preview, although you can see the sound line flatlining where it stops after it is copied to dvd. I have a stack of burned-OUT disks all losing sound at different points.

NOTE: I did not have this problem last year. Since I had files on an external drive, figured that was the problem, but since I have moved to my primary drive -- nope still a problem. I have made pictures smaller as recommended, I have upgraded, everything and no solution yet. Do I go to the trouble of the recommendation suggested above? Maybe I'll try it. But why do I have to go to this trouble with this software? If I have to go through all this to get a video burned, it's time for a different product.

Has anyone fixed the problem? I have successfully put my avi files from various other sources in DVD Architect but every so often, like right now, it just won't build audio peaks all the way through -- it goes to like 52% and stops. Whenever I bring the avi file back into the program it just doesn't bother to try & rebuild the audio and I can't find where to tell it to do so... I can burn with another program but I purchased this Sony product to get good high quality and now it seems it cannot handle big files, (not little ones either it seems -- ones Nero and Movie Maker can handle, this program cannot). I don't see anywhere here that Sony is fixing these problems. They were not problems when I first purchased it so it's got to be some incompatibility with Microsoft.
