Audio Problems

All Audio that I place on the timeline becomes very scratchy. It almost sounds like it is slowed down but the length of the audio doesn't change at all. This happens to audio that's attached to video and imported audio. However, when I render the project, the audio sounds normal. It only sounds that way while I edit. What is happening and how can I fix it?

Playback on the timeline is CPU intensive. It becomes critical the more tracks, effects, transitions, etc. you have. Your sound card buffers play into this.

Since you haven't shared any of your system specs, that is as far as anyone can comment for now.

Go to Preferences, tab 'audio device' and Increase the audio buffers until your audio plays back fine.

Thanks so much! That fixed it! One more random question. I know i've done it before, but i forget how to do it. How do you get an audio clip to fade louder and then fade softer. There is some sort of line in the middle of the audio timeline and when you double click it, a square comes up and you can move it up and down. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and, if so, can you tell me how to do it? I appreciate the help.

It is called 'volume envelope'. Right-click on the audio track's head (where the slider is ) and click Insert Envelope\volume. Or even faster: click on the audio track and then 'Shift+V'.
