Audio Sculpting - A Fader Surface for All?

Grazie wrote on 12/19/2017, 12:23 AM

Having been putting to Bed a project that has BG Music Track and an Ambient Cafe sound, the need to imitate a jerky, forgetful Octopus trying to retrace and repeat LATCHING on Tracks, I want to grow up and get me a Fader Surface that “works” with Vegas Pro. 🤓

C’mon people, let me feel your love! Failing that MAGIXDerek will do too 😍

PreSonus or Mackie any experience and knowledge would be welcomed. This IS VegasPRO yeah?

Seems funny no-one's replied, if you're asking something more complex than my reply, apologies in advance. From my experience with USB contollers (Oxygen 8 and Carbon 49) you can you can pretty much use any fader/controller. Depends on your preference if you want sliders, dial or buttons, motor or manual. Presonus and Mackie come with built in key maps, otherwise pretty easy to map for almost anything - just use the "learn" function in the "external controls and automation" preferences. Dunno, maybe you could even map a Shuttle to do fades. Sounds like you're only dealing with two tracks, would auto ducking like in Vegasaur be a help?

Hi Rainer! No I’m not, your reply is totally spot on. I do wish to have multiple and independently, manipulation Fader control like a Mackie or the PreSonus. And your useful experience has reinforced what I need to consider. I was hoping for a software solution. Maybe a Script or, what I’ve discovered over the last 24 hours, maybe a linked Script and Surface controller.

Now, with the stunning help and patience of Peter Haller and John Rofrano and FaceTime/SKYPE they had separately supported me through researching and then with the installation a WiFi solution utilising my iPad. After a successful and stunning 2 minutes of connectivity through to the VegasPro with Sliders Sliding and Faders Fading and Latches Latching it all went Pete Tong! I’ve seen Elysium and I can’t look back.....

what have I learnt? Yes it’s possible, notwithstanding my WiFi connectivity, to get a software solution. I’ve almost shown that VP15 is responsive to MIDI and Mackie Emulation. I’ve go to tell you Rainer that this in itself is a personal triumph, having regarded most of what I’d experienced tantamount to a dark art. You should also know that Peter was the crucial audio original Team members that created Vegas! So I was fortunate to be speaking with the actual Audio Jedi Knight. He is totally awesome 😎 . And as John is a major Script and code writer - thanks John! - I was in as safe pairs of hands as possible.

Also, and as a further nod to Peter and as a “thank you” to him, he referenced to me his partnership of working with ProDad in producing the Apple compliant MERCALLI https://www.prodad.com/Video-Stabilization-for-Professionals/Mercalli-SAL-Mac-48950,l-us.html. Also do checkout his website http://www.arealspace.com/

OK, what have I learnt?

1) There is a possible software.

2) Is the s/w solution an option that’ll work for me? The jury is out.

3) The Mackie and MIDI process is now revealed to me - thanks Peter - and now I’m not too scared of the technology.

4) I’ve researched various Surface and Hardware MiDi options, initially for Audio Sculpting, but now I can also see the options for both SFX and VFX manipulations via faders is an additional manipulation opportunity.

5) I’ve already got a PreSonus AudioBox, dealing with my Vegas Timeline Audio which DOES have MIDI In/Out ports. So I’m kinda talking myself into putting down a large chunk of plastic £££ on a Hardware solution.

6) I’ve got some great guys who wish and want to help me!

Lastly, I’ve met Darth Fader, and I’m now no longer scared 😎.
