audio studdering on output to tape

I'm new to vegas and am trying to output to tape my first video. I don't know much about computers either. I have a 1.8 ghz cpu, 512 rams, 80 & 160 hard drives. I used sony trv 340 cameras (2) to film a wedding and didn't have to much trouble learning how to get through vegas the first time. I started out rendering to dv tape instead of "render as". Don't know if this is a problem or not. The first 12 minutes of tape the audio works great and then it starts making a studdering sound like it's skipping or something. I've been sitting here all morning reading the 'help' section online and it doesn't offer much for troubleshooting. Can anyone help me???

I'd try a render to final avi, or render to new track before printing to tape. Sounds like either the system can't buffer, or you've got fragmentation issues. I don't know that I'd defrag, but a render to new track should set you up fine. If you've already pre-rendered everything for print to tape, a render to new track won't take any time at all.
If you're using the default temp directory of C/ then your system might also not be capable of a clean print, depending on what's going on in the background. Render so that your files are on the D drive rather than the C drive.

Are you using print to tape option or just playing back and capturing to tape. You need to "print to tape" otherwise audio will not be included and converting non rendered sections could cause audio dropouts.
