Audio Stutter Vegas 6.0c

I'm getting audio stutter or skipping with Vegas 6c. My set up is a Gateway 832GM, 3.0 630HT P4. with 1 gig ram, 250 gig hard drive,
XP Media Center 2005, Audigy 2ZS sound card. Tracks were recorded on another machine at 24bit 44.1k and transfered into vegas as 24bit .wav mono files. running about 22 tracks with 3 to four plugins per track, mostly eq, noise gate and compressor. Am I asking to much out of the 630HT processor. the sound also skips badly when I use he scroll bar to view tracks. The music usually renders fine but it sucks trying to mix music with a stuttering, crackling sound source. Any ideas.

I had the same problem you describe with a new computer set up a few months ago.

My problem turned out to be the integrated graphics controller.

I disabled it and put in a cheap $40 AGP card with its own VRAM and there has not been a single glitch or stutter since.

Thanks, I went into Vegas today and upped the buffer from .10 to .20 and that seemed to take care of it. I would like to do as you have though and install a good video card and dump the Audigy 2ZS for a semi pro card. If I had it to do over again I would buy a completely different computer. Not impressed with the P 4's or windows Media Center 2005 OS. Media Center is pretty much worthless and just adds more junk to the system to sort through for conflicts.

You're on the right track, a PC with a bit of horsepower will help. Athlon 64 CPU's (the dual-cores are nice!), big HD with large buffer, quality DDR memory, and a quality graphics card as previously mentioned will make things fast & smooth.
