Audio Stuttering

Is anyone else getting bizarre audio stutters in Vegas 3.0? Although vegas 2 is always fine, occasionally I get a project in Vegas 3 which is unmixable due to stuttering. And it's definitely not Disk / CPU related.

Funnily enough I think it may be to do with MME drivers, and possibly not affect all soundcards.

I wanted to check this out so I tried the project on a machine with VIA integrated audio on the chipset (mmm, then I strated to appreciate the Delta 1010 and Gadget labs Wave 8*24 cards!)

I couldn't persuade it to stop stuttering.

The delta 1010 seems fine, but the gadget labs has problems... and the VIA integrated audio also has problems.

.. and now the project refuses to open.. just crashes Vegas.

I'm only running the demo.. waiting for the audio to be patched up to scratch. At the moment when laying down multiple tracks, they're not syncing up properly -making multitrack recording impossible.

Do you have the latest VIA drivers? These are notorious for loads of problems. Sure you have DMA enabled on both IDE channels? Any IRQ sharing? What OS are you running? The specs of your machine go far beyond what you should be having happen, I've got a Delta 10/10 too, on a couple machines. No stuttering. Both machines are AMD, one is single, one is dual. Built out over 100 audio tracks with no plugs, solid and clean.

Hmm, I seem to have fixed the problem on my system.. but I'm not sure how. However, I experimented with a project on my girlfriend's PC (which only uses integrated audio, and there's the problem.) I disabled the integrated audio, and now am only using the Wave 8*24 and Delta 1010 under Win98SE, all seems OK.
