Audio stutters during a cut....

Just noticed this tonight- if I have two separate clips butted up against each other without a transition (cut) the audio stutters twice once it moves onto the next clip. In other words once the audio from the adjacent clips begins playing I hear two short pauses of silence in the first few seconds of the clip. If I set it to loop it doesn't do it the subsequent times it is replayed in a loop- only the first time the timeline cursor passes over the two clips.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Lastly it seemed the only cure was to set "Direct Sound Mapper" in Preferences. Microsoft Sound mapper, and Creative ASIO both continued to do it. Anyone have any insight regarding this?!

Just read the fixes in 4.0d (I haven't updated because I'm in the middle of a project now).
One of the updates is:
"A bug that could cause audio drop-outs during crossfades under certain circumstances has been fixed"

Although it seems to be the opposite- if I crossfade the audio clips then the stutter isn't there. It's only when I butt two clips back to back.

hey glen, im encountering a similiar problem. although with me i just got vegas and updated my pc with more ram, more hard drive and a faster processor and a new motherboard...anyways when i play back a recorded sound it stutters almost like its low on RAM even tho i have 512 ram on my pc. im very confused because my friend runs his vegas off his laptop wich has specs below mine and his runs fine. anyone have any idea as to whats wrong? ive spent hours researching this and im sure its a memory thing even though it shouldnt be. ive tried messing with the buffer under preferences and still no luck. ival also played with the Microsoft sound mapper options and still nothing. although i dont know how to get the option of Direct Sound Mapper like u did Glen. anyone? thank you.

I have had this same problem at times. For me the quick fix during a busy session was to duplicate the track, and delete all events in the duplicate EXCEPT for the clip that stuttered. In other words, have the cut piece in its own track.
Version 4.0d sez this is fixed...we will see.
