Audio Sync

I captured from my FX1 to a WD 60 gig portable hard drive attached to my Sony SZ110 Laptop. The laptop has a dual core processor and a great grahics card, so playback of a m2t file is no problem. When I playback the file from the external harddrive using Widows Media player it plays absolutely perfect;; however, when I drag the file to the Vegas timeline, the audio is out of sync. I rendered the file as both mpeg and wmv files and (yes) the audio is still out of sync. Why would the capture playback fine, but the audio go out of sync when brought into Vegas? Please help! Thanks in Advance!

Did you use the Sony capture program? If not, what did you use for capture?

Those are the only things I can think of. I have the FX1 and just completed another project. I've run into various problems, but never had a problem with audio sync, so I can't give you a specific answer based on experience.

Thanks John,

I captured with Vegas. These new Sony laptops have a HD capture program included, which works great. I might try it next time, but I have used Vegas sucessfully before. Thanks again for any advice you might offer.

My experience it is WMP is the enity that screws everything up..?

Want to help - sometimes it comes at the cost of insulting the smarts of the person asking the question...... but are you by chance viewing your WMV file on your computer and using external monitoring cap of vegas to preview files u load up on vegas?

I always have sync problems with audio monitoring on external tv monitor...

Also... even when using the "on screen" preview window in vegas... audio will fall out of sync... particually when 'scrubbing' around track..usually significant improvement to stop and re-start playback.. still always a bit behind..

Thing to remember though..... how it plays in Vegas doesn't really matter cuz i assume your audience will be watching on wmv or a dvd?

Burn it to disc and check playback on other systems/dvd players to confirm actual sync "is there""

The only thing that causes my audio to be out of sync is when I use a different audio driver, as set in the Options/Preferences/Audio Device tab. If I use "Microsoft Sound Mapper" then everything's in sync; if I use "Direct Sound Surround Mapper" then I lose sync. Why would I ever then want to use the latter? Because for some mysterious reason, I can only output surround sound if I do.

Thanks to all. I will let you know how this turns out., Again, when I play the captured m2t clip (with media player), it plays fine, and in sync. But when I move it to the timeline and render it as mpeg2 or wmv it is out of sync (it is also out of sync on the timeline). Wierd! Again, thanks for your input.
