Audio-Technica mics - AT897, AT4071A or AT4073A?

Hi fellas...

I just watched "Now Hear This" from VASST (It´s a cool training DVD). Spot showed some shotgun microphones such as Audio-Technica AT815ST, AT835ST and AT897. The first tow are stereo mics and the 897 is mono. At the distance of 6 feet, the sound I liked most was from the AT815ST. However it is a stereo mic and I want a mono one. Today I saw at B&H website two other models from Audio-Technica for long distance recording, the AT4071 and the AT4073A. I´d like to know if you have already used these models. What do you think about them? Have you ever compared them to another models such as the AT897?

Thanks,

They are all 3 very different mics as you heard. I *rarely* recommend stereo booms, and almost never for indoor use. The 897 is my choice in most situations. I've got two, use one for voiceovers and the other in my video kit. The 4071 is a great choice too, for the majority of uses.

Checking the specs at he AT site:

http://www.audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/AT4073a.html
http://www.audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/AT897.html

The AT site says the 897 is good for video production and the 4073a is good for critical long-distance pickup in broadcasting, film/TV. I am still not clear on what would be the best use for the AT4073a?
